Beschreibung
La Cova is a nest on a human scale, with large soft eggs to lean against. Gianni Ruffi created it in 1973 as an artwork on the border between sculpture and seating: a place to curl up in, part furniture, part dream image of safety and rest.
The hollow body is cut by hand from a block of light polyurethane and covered in cloth. Onto this, thousands of felted fabric offcuts are sewn by hand in spirals, building up the texture of a bird’s nest. The colours of the scraps are combined differently every time, so no two pieces in the edition look the same. The eggs are soft polyurethane with removable fabric covers.
Gufram produces La Cova as a limited edition of 38 pieces, 200 × 200 cm and 75 cm high. Examples are held in the permanent collections of the DESTE Foundation and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal.
