Broken Bench Almost Black is the dark edition of Snarkitecture’s bench for Gufram: the slab is finished in a near-black tone, which gives the broken fragment the weight of basalt or charred concrete.
The original Broken Bench dates from 2017. Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen conceived it as the piece that broke away from their Broken Mirror, an irregular slab laid on beams of a highly resistant plastic agglomerate. Gufram makes the slab in soft polyurethane and finishes it by hand with Guflac, so it looks like masonry but yields slightly when you sit down.
Almost Black followed in 2024 as a limited edition of 777 pieces. It is 190 cm long and 43 cm high. Hand finishing makes every slab slightly different. The light version is Almost White, the original is the Broken Bench, and Broken Mirror Almost Black is the matching mirror.
