Grey 721 is a calm mid grey. Studio 65 designed Bocca in 1970, drawing on Salvador Dalí’s 1935 portrait of Mae West: a sofa in the shape of a pair of lips, very slightly asymmetrical, that brought Surrealism and Pop Art into the living room. Bocca Unlimited, introduced in 2019, offers the form as an open edition in 24 colours.
The body is shaped in soft polyurethane and upholstered with bouclé wool, which gives the lips a soft, textured surface; the cover is removable. The sofa is 212 cm wide and 85 cm high. Each piece is upholstered by hand, so small differences between pieces are part of the work.
Bocca belongs to the permanent collections of the Fondation Louis Vuitton and the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Design Museum in London. The limited edition in red fabric is Bocca, the 1:8 miniature Guframini Bocca. A related shade is Steel 512.
