Alvar is a chaise longue from 1966 and one of the first pieces with which Gufram set out to make modern furniture on its own terms. Giuseppe Raimondi, the company’s first creative director, gave it a long, wave-like profile without ornament, shaped so that the body is supported along its whole length. Its lightness and ease belong to the late 1960s.
Under the removable fabric cover is soft polyurethane, light enough to carry across a room. Alvar is 166 cm long, 65 cm deep and 68 cm high. Like all Gufram upholstery it is cut and sewn by hand, so small differences from piece to piece are normal.
Alvar also comes in blue, green, orange, red and yellow. Raimondi’s Mozza and Tullio Regge’s Detecma are made the same way and share its colours. This version is covered in a pale grey with a cool, bluish tint.
